about

People have often asked if we recorded other songs during The Chronicle sessions in the hot Florida summer that was July 2007. Yes, we did. Actually, we recorded 7 additional songs!

Today, Protagonist and Paper & Plastick proudly present the 1st of 3 songs that we are releasing over the Summer and Fall of 2019 from The Chronicle sessions:“The Killing Fields.” When we recorded“TheKilling Fields,” we believed that it would appear on our second LP. When we sequenced the record at Creep Studios in the Fall of 2007 in Pennsylvania, we realized it didn’t fit into what was naturally becoming, The Chronicle. Dark, melodic, and riddled with many parts,“The Killing Fields” embodies the character traits of the songs that were written between our first record, Hope and Rage and The Chronicle. This is one of those songs that bridges the creative gap. It is also one of our 1st songs; if not the 1st song to tackle one of our favorite subjects: the interpretation of memory and memory recall.

“The Killing Fields” is available wherever you stream music out there in the world. Thank you for listening.

lyrics

Where has my youth gone and how can I get it back?

How can I get it back?

My quest for youth is in my cobwebs of memory
Memories, they fade away into my mind
And when I wander into those fields
It brings me back, back to The Killing Fields

Out here, out there
There is no memory

There is no memory

My photo album is a graveyard of memories
Let me bury my dead
Memories, they fade away into my mind
And when I turn these pages
These tombstones bring me back
They bring me back
Please take me back
Back, back to The Killing Fields

Out here, out there
There is no memory

Bring me back, back to The Killing Fields

I’m left in this world without warmth
It’s the last day of fall and winter is here
And I must now face this on my own

Bring me Back

I wish I was five again, sitting back on the grass, staring at the sun, a smile on my face
Without a care in the world
